Richard Melville Hall, better known as Moby released the track ‘Porcelain’ in 2000. It was the third track on the album ‘Play’, released in 1999, and the sixth single released from the same album. ‘Porcelain’ quickly climbed the charts worldwide, including a top five score on the UK chart, as of this writing, is Moby’s highest score so far. The album ‘Play’ would later become a commercial success and sold over 10 million copies worldwide, including more hit singles like, ‘Natural Blues’, ‘Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?’ and ‘Honey’.

For my own part, I heard ‘Porcelain’ for the first time in the movie ‘The Beach’ with the brilliant Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead role, this was in 2000. Since then I’ve always associated ‘Porcelain’ and Moby’s unique sound with some vague teenage dream to escape everyday life and find an exotic place where no man has previously set foot. Sounds cliché, but the foundation of that dream will never die.

Finally, I give two thumbs up for this man and his music. I don’t believe that people understand how much he has meant to the early era of electronic music. In the eyes of others, he is a commercial artist that was played on the radio during the early 2000′s, for me he is something much more than that.
